The Health Education and Promotion Unit conducted a 3-in-1 Press Conference on the three major health events for March 2016. The activity was held at the Family Country Hotel, General Santos City last March 1, 2016. These health events are the World TB Day, Rabies Awareness Month, and the International Women's Month. The World TB Day on March 24, 2016 has the theme, “Unite to end TB”. The Rabies Awareness Month on the other hand has this theme, “End Rabies, Now na!” while the International Women’s Month has “Kapakanan ni Juana, Isama sa agenda…” for its theme. The invited panelists are Dr. Amebella Taruc -Chief of Local Health Support Division, , Dr. Ali Tumama - Head of the Infectious Disease Cluster, Ms. Mary Joy Chiu, RN - Focal Point Person of Reproductive Health, and Mr. Kamlon Usman, Jr., RN - the TB Program Manager. This activity was also participated by our partner agency -- the Philippine Information Agency Regional Office XII headed by Dir. Olivia T. Sudaria and the ever-supportive media partners.
During the press conference, the panelists were asked about some issues such as, what are the initiatives in promoting the women's rights and how are we doing as far as the protection of the women's sector is concerned.
Ms. Chiu responded that there are lots of advocacies conducted in promoting gender balance and equality for women. Proof of this is that many women now are holding top-level positions in both public and private sectors. Women now are more empowered and aware of their rights.
With regards to the two health diseases -- Tuberculosis and Rabies, it's a fact that these are major health problems nationwide, but through concerted efforts, these diseases can be eliminated and we will have a world free from TB and rabies.
Everyone has a role in ensuring the elimination of TB and Rabies, and strengthen advocacy for the promotion of women empowerment and gender equality in our society.
