The Department of Health Regional Office XII headed by Regional Director Teogenes F. Baluma, MD,MHA, MDM, FPCHA, CESO III, successfully hosted the 2014 DOH Red Orchid Awards for Mindanao Cluster last June 26, 2014 at Greenleaf Hotel, Gen. Santos City. Assistant Secretary and Red Orchid Awards Chairperson Dr. Paulyn Jean B. Rosell-Ubial, MD, MPH, CESO II led the awarding rites for this year's winners.
The DOH Red Orchid Awards is the annual search for 100% tobacco-free provinces, municipalities, cities, government offices, government hospitals and DOH Regional Offices. It follows the World Health Organization (WHO) framework convention on tobacco control that recommends adoption of measures to provide protection from exposure to smoke in

indoor workplaces, public transport, indoor places, and other public places, as well as Republic Act 9211 or the Tobacco Regulation Act of 2003 that provides protection from exposure to tobacco smoke (Healthful Environment).
The Red Orchid Awardees will be coming from the following categories:
• Local Government Units
• Government Offices
• Government Hospitals
• DOH Regional Offices and DOH Retained Hospitals
The 2014 Red Orchid Awardees of Region XII under their respective categories are:
For LGU Category:
• Municipalities of Makilala and Carmen, and the Cities of Tacurong and Kidapawan (Pink Orchid or runner-up)
For Government Office Category:
• Civil Service Commission RO XII
• 6th IB, Kaagapay 2ID (Hall of Fame)
For Government Hospital Category:
• Lambayong District Hospital
• Cotabato Sanitarium
• Roel I. Senador Memorial Hospital
