world health day2016The Department of Health Regional Office XII joined the national simultaneous celebration of the World Health Day last April 7, 2016 at S.B Montañer Hall, DOH RO XII, Cotabato City. With the theme, “Beat Diabetes; Scale up prevention, strengthen cure, and enhance surveillance”, this year’s celebration for World Health Day focuses on the management and prevention of diabetes.

Headed by the Health Education and Promotion Office of the Department of Health Regional Office XII, Cotabato City, the office conducted a lecturette to the employees of the DOH RO XII and discussed the five (5) ways to beat diabetes which are the following:

zika virus advisoryThe Department of Health is currently at the height of its information dissemination on Zika Virus infection, a vector-borne disease caused by a flavi virus. The Zika virus is transmitted to human through the bite of an infected mosquito from the Aedes mosquito, same mosquito that transmits dengue and chikungunya.

Zika virus symptoms is usually 2-7 days after the mosquito bite. Zika can cause headache, red eyes, skin rash, joint pain, and fever. It also causes a complication to the baby inside the womb of his mother. It may develop abnormality in the size of its head due to incomplete brain development called microcephaly.

women's monthThe Department of Health Regional Office XII together with various National Government Agencies, Local Government Units, Civil Society Organizations, People’s Organization and State Universities participated in the Solidarity Walk for the celebration of the National Women’s Day on March 8, 2016 with the year’s theme, “Kapakanan ni Juana, Isama sa Agenda”. The walk started from Cotabato City plaza to Notre Dame RVM College of Cotabato at exactly 6:30 in the morning.

TB presscon march2016The Health Education and Promotion Unit conducted a 3-in-1 Press Conference on the three major health events for March 2016. The activity was held at the Family Country Hotel, General Santos City last March 1, 2016. These health events are the World TB Day, Rabies Awareness Month, and the International Women's Month. The World TB Day on March 24, 2016 has the theme, “Unite to end TB”. The Rabies Awareness Month on the other hand has this theme, “End Rabies, Now na!” while the  International Women’s Month has “Kapakanan ni Juana, Isama sa agenda…” for its theme. The invited panelists are Dr. Amebella Taruc -Chief of Local Health Support Division, , Dr. Ali Tumama - Head of the Infectious Disease Cluster, Ms. Mary Joy Chiu, RN - Focal Point Person of Reproductive Health,  and Mr. Kamlon Usman, Jr., RN - the TB Program Manager. This activity was also participated by our partner agency -- the Philippine Information Agency Regional Office XII headed by Dir. Olivia T. Sudaria and the ever-supportive media partners.
