Mr. Roy Boholst assessing one of the participants during return demonstration on IRSThe resurgence of malaria cases in Sitio San Vicente, Barangay Masiag, Bagumbayan, Sultan Kudarat prompted the DOH Regional Office, Malaria Elimination and Control Program to conduct on-site training on Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) operation to barangay volunteers in the said municipality. A total of eight (8) barangay volunteers were trained last October 20, 2015 which was held at Sitio San Vicente, Barangay Masiag, Bagumbayan.

The activity was done in collaboration with the Municipal Health Office of Bagumnbayan headed by Dr. Raul V. Manansala, Municipal Health Officer in partnership with the barangay officials and sitio leaders of Barangay Masiag led by Barangay Captain Greg M. Lagnaoda. The day after the training, the spray team started their operation in which they have to cover 24 sitios and puroks with an estimated number of 1,544 houses with a target population of 7,513. The spraying operations will end on November 11, 2015. DOH Regional Office XII allotted Php1,181,250.00 for insecticides (excluding payment of traveling expenses and per diems of team leader and spraymen).

health summit 01The High-Impact Five Health Summit of the Department of Health – Region XII formally commenced last May 27, 2015 at Kidapawan City. The event was graced by a motorcade and a float parade participated by the host city and municipalities namely; Pigcawayan, Midsayap, Carmen, Pikit, Mlang, Tulunan, Arakan, Pres. Roxas, and Makilala. The parade started at Amas Capitol Grounds, then to the city proper and ended at JC Leisure & Business Place, the venue of the two-day event. The theme, "Sa tuwid na daan, Kalusugang tuloy-tuloy para sa Pamilyang Pinoy."

There were a total of 472 individuals in attendance. Forty Nine Local Chief Executives, four Provincial Health Officers, seven Chief of Hospitals, twenty four City and Municipal Health Officers, sixteen from the National Line Government Agencies, seventeen from Non-Governmental Organizations, twenty from Media partners, seventy three nurses, eleven BHW's, three from AMHOP, seven from attached agencies and 241 from DOH RO XII staff, choirs, PNP, Special Action Team, dancers and guests. The Host Province was led by the Hon. Governor Emmylou "Lala" Talino-Mendoza and other SP members in attendance.

tb-rabies-presscon2Each year, we recognize the World TB Day and Rabies Awareness Month as health events highlight during the month of March. As such, the Health Education and Promotion Unit of the Department of Health, Region XII conducted a Press Conference to raise awareness among the two diseases; and for the public to support its regional control efforts to combat the spread of these diseases through media coverage and press releases.

The Press Conference was held at Family Country Hotel, General Santos City last March 24, 2015 at 1 o’clock in the afternoon. It was attended by our media partners, fellow workers from the Philippine Information Agency, and some invited guests. The panelists were Dr. Francisco V. Mateo, MPH, CESE, Assistant Regional Director, Dr. Amebella G. Taruc, Chief, Local Health Support Division, and Dr. Ali T. Tumama, Chief Infectious Disease Cluster. The

womens-month2015The Department of Health Regional Office XII together with various National Government Agencies, Local Government Units, State Universities, Civil Society Organizations and People’s Organizations participated in the Solidarity Walk for the Celebration of the National Women’s Day on March 8, 2015. The Solidarity Walk started from Cotabato City State Polytechnic College going to the Cotabato City Plaza with the year’s theme: “Juana, Desisyon Mo ay Mahalaga sa Kinabukasan ng Bawat Isa, Ikaw na!” It pays tribute to the strong and resilient “juanas” or women who brought inspiring changes here in our country and across the globe. Many converged as they believed the idea of women empowerment. An estimated 1,000 women advocates attended the Solidarity Walk which started at 6 o’clock in the morning.
