Each year, we recognize the World TB Day and Rabies Awareness Month as health events highlight during the month of March. As such, the Health Education and Promotion Unit of the Department of Health, Region XII conducted a Press Conference to raise awareness among the two diseases; and for the public to support its regional control efforts to combat the spread of these diseases through media coverage and press releases.
The Press Conference was held at Family Country Hotel, General Santos City last March 24, 2015 at 1 o’clock in the afternoon. It was attended by our media partners, fellow workers from the Philippine Information Agency, and some invited guests. The panelists were Dr. Francisco V. The Department of Health Regional Office XII together with various National Government Agencies, Local Government Units, State Universities, Civil Society Organizations and People’s Organizations participated in the Solidarity Walk for the Celebration of the National Women’s Day on March 8, 2015. The Solidarity Walk started from Cotabato City State Polytechnic College going to the Cotabato City Plaza with the year’s theme: “Juana, Desisyon Mo ay Mahalaga sa Kinabukasan ng Bawat Isa, Ikaw na!” It pays tribute to the strong and resilient “juanas” or women who brought inspiring changes here in our country and across the globe. Many converged as they believed the idea of women empowerment. An estimated 1,000 women advocates attended the Solidarity Walk which started at 6 o’clock in the morning.

The Health Education and Promotion Office together with Non-Communicable Diseases Cluster commemorated the Heart Month with the theme “Alagaan ang Puso, mag Healthy Lifestyle, Go smoke-free, Go Sigla, Go Sustansya and Go Slow sa Tagay” on February 13, 2015 at the Multi-purpose Covered Court of the Department of Health Regional Office No. XII. It was just a simple program with lots of Parlor Games for the employees. Everyone enjoyed the games played in individual, by partner and by groups. The employees also gamely participated in the Zumba exercise which is also being conducted every Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays to make employees stay fit and healthy. It is also a part of the “Belly Gud” Program of the DOH.

The Family Planning Program Implementation Review was conducted last February 24-26, 2015 at Grand Regal Hotel, Davao City. It was highlighted with the “Araw ng Parangal” for the most deserving LGUs in the implementation of Family Planning Program in the region. The ceremony also recognized the highest performing RHUs of the provinces and a health center from Cotabato City.
The four provinces and one city presented their accomplishments with emphasis on FHSIS reports, FP major indicator- the Contraceptive Prevalence Rates, local initiatives, sustainability strategies, policies, and public-private partnerships. They discussed functional service
